There is a Teacher In-Service this Friday, 9/18- there will be no school for students. Please note that next Monday, 9/21 will be a Group A day.

This week (Monday-Tuesday) we will have Honor Roll Assemblies for our Sophomores. We will pass out awards for grades they earned during the 2nd semester last year and for year long grades in 2019-20. Qualifying students will receive academic letters and medals.

Herff-Jones will be here to meet with Seniors on Wednesday and Thursday at the beginning of 4th period (10:45am). They will talk about graduation invitations along with cap and gown orders.

Good luck to our Boys Golf Team as they compete in the Patriot League Meet on Wednesday!

This Wednesday, September 16, we will publish our 2nd Ineligible List. Any student who has two or more grades below a C for the first time in a quarter is placed on the Warning List. If he/she has two or more grades below a C again this quarter then he/she will be placed on the Ineligible List. The student will then not be able to participate in extra curricular activities for the following week.

Please check the Principal page for a more detailed list of weekly activities.

We welcome our students back to school this week!

We are starting our school year using a hybrid model or in the Yellow Phase of our district re-opening plan. A letter was mailed out to all families last week and that letter is also posted on the Principal Page of this website. We have divided our students into two cohorts (A and B). Group A will be physically at school starting Wednesday, August 12 and Group B will begin attending in-person starting Thursday, August 13. (Group A is last name A-K and Group B is last name L-Z). Students will then attend school in-person every other day. When students are not at school they will be expected to log into Schoology for attendance purposes and to complete online assignments. We are implementing this hybrid model so we can limit the number of students in the building and in our classrooms each day. This may be an inconvenience, but please know we are doing everything we can to provide a quality education while keeping our students and staff as safe as possible.

All Colorado schools are now closed through April 30. All sports and extra curricular activities are  also cancelled through April 30.

Also-  The PSAT and SAT tests will not be held this year- we will update you as soon as we find out any updated information. Prom, the annual Pow Wow, Jazz on the Plains, and our annual spring play have all been cancelled for this year. The State FBLA Conference and State Knowledge Bowl Competition have also both been cancelled.

To All Strasburg High School Parents and Guardians- I hope all of you are doing well and staying safe. I know these are unusual times, but I also know if we work together we can get through this crisis and get back to a new normal. I want to give you some updates now that we have finished our first full week of distance learning.

Semester Dates: As of now we will not be in the building until at least after April 30. In fact, it is highly unlikely we will return to the building during this semester. However, your student’s education does continue and they need to work on their classes online on a daily basis.

Grades and Schoology: It is very important that your students continue to do all of their required assignments through Schoology. These grades count and whatever final grade they earn will be placed on their transcript.  I know that it is not the same as being in the classroom and we want to do everything we can to help them. I also know many of our students are experiencing issues with Schoology. Schoology is working on their site and hopefully they will be able to get these issues resolved soon. These problems are currently worse in the morning- Schoology seems to get better as the day goes on. Please encourage your student to be patient and continue to be conscientious about checking on their classes.

SAT and PSAT: We will not be giving the PSAT or SAT test during this school year. We are waiting on word from the state about when these will be given. It appears that the SAT test (and possibly the PSAT tests) will be given in the fall so this year’s juniors can continue to work towards applying for colleges. Colleges fully understand this and seem to be willing to modify their admission requirements.

Special Events: I know students are disappointed about missing out on special events that happen at the end of the year, including Prom, our annual Pow Wow, Jazz on the Plains, and the spring play. I am disappointed, too. But we had to cancel these events for the health and safety of our community. It is just not worth exposing anyone to this dangerous virus until we are absolutely certain we can ensure everyone’s safety.

Seniors and Graduation: A special note to our seniors. I know how important graduation is to you, your families, and our community. It is incredibly important to me, too. It is a special event to celebrate all you have accomplished for the past 12 years. Trust me, I am eager to celebrate it with you. You probably already understand that we cannot have our traditional graduation. But please know we will do everything we can to plan a ceremony for all of you. It will likely not be the same as what we are used to- but we can still make it something you will always remember. You are a unique class- why not have a unique celebration?

I do care about all of our students very much and miss seeing everyone each day. I am looking forward to when we can all be safely together again. Until then please reach out to me or any staff member if you need anything. You can message me on Schoology or email me at jrasp@strasburg31j.com. Take care and we do hope to see you soon.
